Skadoo: Phwoof

Part of my Skadoo series of monsters, spirits and beasties.

This is Phwoof, one of the darker Skadoo spirits. He lives in the Black Woods. He is a distant cousin of Phreet and once was covered in beautiful bark and had two proud full branches of fruit where his horns now grow.

Once known as the Golden Woods centuries ago, a mysterious fire broke out and spread quickly through the trees. Where most of the spirits of the woods fled, Phwoof rushed into the woods to save the trees but most of them were already lost to the flames. In a last effort to save the wood from total devastation he consumed all of the fire into himself and was turned to charcoal, his bountiful branches growing from his head turned to calcified horns, his spirit grew dark as did the abandoned and burnt wood.

Phwoof now lives in the woods alone with the dead trees, blackened by the fire and shunned by the lighter spirits for taking in the element of fire and losing his inner light.

Phreet tries to visit his distant relative with gifts of honey combs and dandelions at the edge of the dead tree line, but Phwoof is rarely socialable and usually keeps to his home near the centre of the Black Woods.
